Raisins and Grapes in dogs and cats

Common info

Grapes and raisins are harmful to dogs and cats. The most danger is acute renal failure (kidney failure) due to difficulty urinating (oliguria). Vomiting and diarrhea usually appear within a few hours and after swallowing for 24 hours. Things in the vomit and feces may contain fragments of grapes or raisins. Other symptoms such as dehydration, causing lethargy and weakness.

Description

Grapes and raisins in dogs and cats cause acute renal failure. Grapes and raisins cause kidney failure, and urine production will decrease. It shows that dogs and cats are not able to filter toxins by themselves, which is still unclear what kind of toxins in the grapes and raisins are harmful to dogs and cats.

When dogs and cats eat grapes or raisins, it will cause vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, weakness, lethargy, abdominal pain or spasms, dehydration, difficulty urinating (oliguria), bad breath, oral ulcers, tremors, coma, kidney failure (renal failure), or death.


Treatment and Prevention

When dogs and cats eat grapes or raisins, it’s considered an emergency case that must treat immediately. It can also protect by keeping grapes or raisins away from dogs and cats.
